Abstract :
The behavior of a single split ring resonator when it is scaled down in order to obtain resonances from terahertz to optical frequencies is analyzed. The results of such analysis strongly suggest the usefulness of split rings resonators (SRRs), with higher capacitances than the single split ring, for the design of artificial magnetic materials with negative permeability at infrared and optical frequencies
