Integration of Web into an embedded SNMP-based management environment

SNMP (simple network management protocol) is nowadays the key enabling management technology, while Web technologies have proved attractive to network and systems management. Future developments in the management domain should be "integrated". An embedded management model, which provides an integrated device management framework, is presented. This model consists of five functional modules including system service layer, application layer, data layer, middle layer and access layer. Each module is described, as well as their relationship with each other. Then the key points of implementation are discussed. The system design with development tools provided by WindRiver Systems, which enable products to be developed cost-effectively and efficiently, is described in detail.
