Abstract
The analysis of unequally spaced (thinned) linear arrays originated with the work of Unz. Computer-aided procedures include perturbation methods and dynamic programming for the design of arrays with optimal radiation patterns. More recently, genetic and improved statistically thinning algorithms have been developed for the design of low-sidelobe unequally spaced arrays. In this paper, we apply a mathematical relation of the Legendre polynomials to simplify the relation between the array factor and current distribution of typical unequally spaced arrays.
