Abstract :
We discuss the participatory learning paradigm and emphasize the all-inclusive role of the currently beliefs in every aspect of the learning process. We describe how the acceptance mechanism determines which observations are used for learning based upon their compatibility with the current beliefs. We point out how this lead to more efficient learning. A prototypical example of a participatory learning system is introduced. We introduce the concept of a reviewer that monitors the performance of the system and gives it some independence from the current beliefs.
