Abstract :
The aperture coupled cavity fed patch and the aperture coupled cavity antenna are analyzed. Each geometry incorporates a thick ground plane which may serve as a heat sink for active MMIC circuitry, and as structural support for thin substrates. The presence of the thick ground plane, as well as the aperture coupled feeding scheme, make these antennas particularly suited to millimeter wave phased array applications.
