Abstract
With the formal release of railway applicable European EMC standard, EN-50121:2000, EMC assurance for the railway industry has reached a matured stage. This paper describes the current EMC management methodology and lifecycle developed to manage the EMC aspects of the West Rail project, one of the largest railway projects in Hong Kong. The key activities and tools developed for each phase of the lifecycle are discussed. Practical issues encountered and the solutions adopted are elaborated The EMC management lifecycle approach has been found to be an effective framework to achieve EMC assurance for a complex railway project comprising both heavy electrical systems and sensitive computerised control and communication systems.
