Abstract :
We present an approach to efficient computation of performance indicators that can be used to select array beamforming directions for subsequent locally optimal detection processing. Previous results have shown that selection of beamforming directions that have minimum amplitude squared variance are good candidates for subsequent adaptive locally optimum signal processing. We present a novel and flexible method for computing the amplitude squared variance using the FFT, and we present some simulation results on the effectiveness and potential of this approach
