Abstract :
Optimum M-band subband codec structure in the presence of PDF-optimized quantizers is proposed. Using the polyphase decomposition of analysis/synthesis filter bank(FB), we derive the formula for mean square error(MSE) at the reconstructed output. We show that the optimum M-band FB structure can be designed by a suitable choice of a simple scalar compensator following each quantizer. Specific design examples have been developed for two different classes of filter banks, the paraunitary FB and the biorthogonal FB for the 2 channel case
