Abstract :
This paper proposes a joint source-channel coding (JSCC) scheme for unequal protection of SVC video coding over packet loss channels. The SVC sub-streams with different importance are unequally protected using Low Density Parity Check (LDPC) codes with five different coding rates respectively. The proposed JSCC scheme for SVC can optimize the rate allocation between source coding and channel coding according to the characteristic of SVC, the actual bandwidth of current wireless channel and the average rate of packet loss. Simulation results show that the proposed JSCC scheme can adapt the changing of network condition and achieve good reconstructed video quality at the receiver.
