Abstract
This paper discusses the use of multimedia communications in a tactical environment. Multimedia requirements for command and control are presented. Also discussed are the network requirements for handling the various multimedia data types. An overview of a tactical multimedia communications system is presented. Its layered communications architecture combines traditional OSI-like packet-switching capabilities with asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) capabilities to support the communication of text, graphics, voice, video, and still imagery
