Abstract
Oil mist lubrication is a proven and cost effective method for lubricating electric motor bearings. The growth of oil mist lubricated motors has increased in the past 5 to 6 years due to the advances in technology in the electric motor for oil mist lubrication. The advances have increased. the feasibility of using oil mist when compared to a grease lubricated motor along with decreasing the amount of oil used and loss in the industry today. The advances have had to take into considerations the electrical designs and a review of failures in the field to determine the next step of improvements for future designs. The advantages and disadvantages of oil mist lubricated electric motors in the petrochemical industries are discussed.
