Abstract :
Streaming or dataflow models such as KPN (Kahn Process Networks) have gained acceptance recently in embedded software design. When mapping streaming applications onto heterogeneous MPSoCs (Multi-Processor Systems-on-Chip), questions arise: How to realize data communication of streaming applications on the target MPSoCs? How to efficiently explore software mapping space? In this paper, we present a case study of exploring different FIFO implementations when mapping KPNs to a real-life heterogeneous MPSoC platform, TI´s OMAP3530. We have investigated various possibilities on OMAP3530 to realize KPN FIFO communication. An integrated tool framework has been also developed to evaluate our work and improve efficiency of mapping streaming programs onto MPSoCs.
