  • Abstract
Reliability assessment is seen as a vital tool in the planning and design of all electric power systems. Reliability assessment tools can be employed for various reasons, such as the calculating of investment windows, for the ranking of alternative designs or for locating weak points in the system. The paper analyzes the reliability indices and the factors that have significant influence on the system reliability indices. Failures of generating units and transmission lines are considered. Station components failures that results in line outages are accounted for adjustment in the line failure rates. The indices obtained from the statistical analysis of the historical data of the events occurred in the life of the power system has been directly related to the reliability of the supply as well as to the total value of unsupplied energy from failure. The approach that is introduced here is based on analytical methods, well known probabilistic tools and different reliability evaluation criterion calculating the key parameters in the evaluation of the generation and transmission network reliability with the aim of evaluation of the unserved energy and the total costs of the unserved energy
