Abstract :
This paper embodies work at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University on the application of energy storage in general and BESS in particular to improve power quality and system reliability. This paper discusses the hardware configuration and the control strategy being used to implement the above objectives when a battery energy storage system is connected to the grid. The proposed three-phase multi-purpose battery energy storage system provides a robust control of the supply waveform and the active and reactive power delivered at the point of common coupling independent of the varying load demand and its waveform.
