Abstract
A novel phasor control scheme is developed for a SMES system to protect a critical load from momentary voltage sags. This system consists of a 0.3 MJ superconducting magnet, a 200 kVA IGBT-based current source converter and a 2.5 mH reactor inserted between power supply and load. To obtain a rapid response, the current vector PWM strategy is applied. Simulations and experiments are carried out to demonstrate the algorithm, and the results are presented.
