Abstract :
Receiver design for digital radar and optical communication involves optimization and realization of an equalizing filter to provide a suitable signal at the input to the decision circuit. A frequently encountered problem in filter design is the realization of a network with a specified frequency transfer characteristic. In this paper, the optimization of band pass characteristics is considered. Our approach is to approximate the target by the real frequency (RF) method, which gives directly the elements of the equalizing filter. The method is illustrated by the design of a filter for a radar communications receiver.
