Abstract
We describe HAPI, a reconfigurable content indexing device for consumer personal devices such as PDAs and intelligent cell phones, which provides efficient search technology based on a pruned inverted index structure. HAPI accommodates patterns of different lengths to support high reusability and efficiency and can be used either as an internal slave component or as an external co-processor. HAPI controllers take only a minimal percentage of the target device space leaving the majority of the space to term and posting entries.
