Abstract :
In this paper, we propose differentiated QoS adaptation (DQA) as a new paradigm for quality of service (QoS) management at the network layer. DQA enables resource reservations and allocations to be adaptive to traffic conditions, which is particularly useful for achieving adaptability in wireless networks, resolving the QoS guarantee issues in the presence of mobility. The proposed adaptable traffic classes for DQA also enable several new paradigms for routing, traffic engineering, and protection, including demand engineering, predictive traffic engineering, adaptive route discovery, and efficient wireless protection with shared virtual reservation. Our simulation results show that DQA can achieve considerably lower blocking rates as compared to previous reservation protocols.
