  • Abstract
    An intra prediction (IP) scheme based on 2D geometrical manipulation, called 2DIP, was proposed in to improve the line-based intra prediction (LIP) in H.264/AVC. In this work, we propose ways to reduce the complexity and enhance the efficiency of 2DIP and call the resultant scheme 2D enhanced intra prediction (2DEIP). These enhancements are achieved via block classification and translation vector prediction. It is shown by experimental results that the proposed 2DEIP method allows better prediction for images with complex textures. The average PSNR gain over the H.264/AVC intra prediction can be as high as 0.6 dB.
