Abstract :
In this paper, a new adaptive power control algorithm for Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS) is proposed. The new algorithm conforms UMTS specifications and does not require any additional signalling. Simulation result shows that it significantly outperforms the power control algorithm typically used in UMTS in terms of received signal level, and power control errors. Also, the proposed algorithm can achieve very similar performance as adaptive algorithms which require speed estimation and knowledge of the optimal stepsize for each user speed.
