Abstract :
Results of a study of the performance of a number of outer rings interconnected through an inner ring are presented. The connection between outer and inner rings is provided through gateways. The Poisson arrival of messages to the outer-ring stations is assumed. with two classes of messages: the first class is an interring message, while the second class stays on the same ring. By means of a certain independence assumption and under a limited-service discipline, outer-ring stations and gateways are modeled as M/G/1 and G/G/1 queues, respectively. In both types of queues, a message initiating a busy period receives special service. Both numerical and simulation results are presented, and show good agreement
