Abstract :
Two numerical techniques are employed to decompose and extract oscillation modes from complicated multi-frequency time responses. First, a simple algorithm is presented which uses a band-width filter to extract the short lived modes prior to the damping time constant calculation. The second approach is known as the Prony modal analysis method, which is suitable for multi-frequency problems and can be generally applied to power system damping problems
