Abstract :
Summary form only given. Polarization mode coupling in birefringent fibers is well understood using coupled-mode theory. The couplers can be fabricated by modifying the birefringence of the fiber through internal or external exposure to laser light. We report, for the first time, on polarization mode couplers written into a single mode Andrew E-core fiber.
