Abstract :
Summary form only given. We describe experiments studying the polarization mode dispersion (PMD) of an air-silica microstructure fiber (ASMF), presenting results in excellent agreement with calculations using an hexagonal structure with a slightly elliptical core. We also report the first observation of vectorial modulational instability (MI) in an ASMF with MI sideband shifts in excellent agreement with predictions based on the calculated PMD.
