  • Abstract
In this paper, a compact gourd-shaped dual-band antenna is presented. The proposed antenna mainly consists of two connected circular discs and a slotted stub extending from the upper circular disc. The designed antenna can support 3.5/5.5GHz WiMAX and 5.8GHz WLAN simultaneously. The simulated -10 dB return loss bandwidth of this dual-band antenna is from 3.0 to 4.0GHz and 5.4 to 6.4GHz. The antenna has good performance in impedance matching and the return loss can reach -54.7dB and -68.9dB at resonant frequency 3.5GHz and 5.8GHz, respectively. Moreover, the designed antenna can provide stable omnidirectional radiation patterns and a relatively flat gain trend within the dual-band. The effects of some important parameters on the antenna performance are analyzed. The simulation and measurement results of the antenna are presented, and a good agreement between them is achieved.
