  • Abstract
This paper describes the design of a fully-differential, 1.5 V CMOS operational transconductance amplifier (OTA) for use in a pipeline analog-to-digital converter (ADC). Post-layout simulations for a 2 pF load capacitance show that the OTA achieves a gain-bandwidth of 560 MHz at a phase margin of 62°, with 92 dB dc gain. The OTA settles to an accuracy of -69 dB in 20 ns (closed loop-gain of 4), thus facilitating its use in the implementation of the multiplying digital-to-analog (MDAC) stages of a 1.5 V, 25 MS/s 10-bit pipeline ADC. Input-referred noise is about 8 nV/√Hz, power consumption is 3.9 mW and input range is 1 V peak-to-peak differential. A standard 0.35 μm CMOS process was used for the design.
