Abstract :
According to the Snell refraction law of spherically stratified atmosphere, a radar with down-looking mode is different from one working with an up-looking mode. A down-looking radar is limited by the critical depression angle, which is related to the radar height and profile of the atmospheric refraction index. The difference between measurements of the down-looking radar and up-looking ones is analyzed statistically by using some measured profiles of the atmospheric refraction index
