  • Abstract
A vertex view can be used to supplement a radially acquired Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT) data set for improved image reconstruction performance. In this paper we use Shannon´s Mutual Information and the Cramer-Rao (CR) bound to quantify the intrinsic performance gain achievable by using the vertex view. For a simple system consisting of a single image plane and one noise plane the gain in mutual information can be as high as 50%. The reduction in the estimator variance predicted by CR bound can be as much as a factor of 5. The CR bound can be directly related to the estimator variance and the mutual information is directly related to the trade-off between resolution and sensitivity
