Abstract
Future high speed networks are expected to be deployed using ATM (asynchronous transfer mode) as the core network technology. ATM networks are intended to support a diverse variety of network services and applications. The ability of a network to effectively control the traffic flowing through it is fundamentally related to its ability to provide appropriately differentiated network performance levels for the various network applications. This paper describes our initial work on an ATM network model which can be used as the basis for the simulation and evaluation of various traffic management techniques and ATM network performance studies
