Abstract
An important task of network management is collecting and analyzing MIB information from the SNMP devices with proper frequency. As there are up to exponential numbers of managed objects in NGI (Next Generation Internet), and the scheme to collect management information affects the performance of network management, a novel algorithm - SAA(self-adaptive algorithm) used for retrieving MIB information from the SNMP(simple network management protocol) devices in the management of NSFCNET(National Natural Science Foundation of China Network) has been put forward in this article. SAA can adjust the number of retrieving objects and interval of retrieval self- adaptively by using the policies of self-adaptivity, fault tolerance, dynamical recognition status of objects etc., and thus can use fewer network resources without alteration of SNMP.
