Abstract :
Externally modulated analog fiber optic links with and without RF amplification are compared with traditional RF copper links in terms of noise figure (NF) and spur-free dynamic range (SFDR). The detail simulations are performed over 1 to 18 GHz frequency range for a variety of transmission lengths. Our analysis has shown that the fiber optic link is the technology of choice even for a transmission distance as short as a few hundreds of meters.
