Abstract :
Motion control covers a very wide spectrum of options. There is the choice between DC, AC, or stepper motors, open or closed loop control and a range of various digital motion controllers to suit. Building these components into a high-speed multi-motion system is not so easily achieved, especially with a clearly defined strategy for future expansion and compatibility with existing and planned computer, PLC and networking systems. The choice of hardware and software options for quickly building motion control systems is discussed emphasising the need to encompass many parameters in addition to those of motion to solve the actual machine requirements, together with the increasing need for diagnostics both local and remote as the control systems become more complex
