Abstract
Active suspension system provides the best performance. However, the cost of fully active suspension system has restricted its use. On the other hand, the passive suspension system is less costly but it provides low performance. Semi-active suspension system has the potential to provide as good performance as active suspension with lower cost if it is well designed. Various semi-active suspension system have been proposed. This paper proposed the improved skyhook control logic to drive the 5-step actuators which provides better control of the suspension parameters as well as provides better trade off between ride comfort and road handling. The proposed semiactive suspension system is simulated and its result is compared with skyhook-based suspension system and passive system. The result shows that our proposed system provides better performance than skyhook-based suspension system
