The Great Dismal Swamp Earth System Science Academy

The Annual Earth System Science Academy provides teachers the opportunity to develop an appreciation of North Carolina wetlands, the health of local waterways and to gain experience working with NASA and university researchers who investigate these topics. Included in the Earth System Science Academy is a tour of The Great Dismal Swamp boardwalk; hands-on water quality labs; research plenary sessions, and workshops on NASA´s Earth System Science Websites. The Academy is a major initiative of the Network Resources and Training Site housed on the campus of Elizabeth City State University. The NRTS, funded by the MU-SPIN Office of Goddard Space Flight Center, serves as an expert site in Earth System Science. A report on the Annual Earth System Science Academy can be found in the Education Catalog for NASA´s Earth Science Enterprise. The report is a key resource for informing educators about ESE education programs and resources and is distributed nationally and internationally at conferences and meetings.
