  • Abstract
As the growth of digital home application, more and more Customer Premises Equipments (CPEs) will be managed by TR-069 CPE remote management protocol. It is important to monitor the device status and analyze the statistics information of CPEs in a regular interval. A data collection mechanism is to transfer the system information from the CPE to a data collector. The data collector is used to receive and analyze collected data from CPEs. The most popular data collection method, Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) Trap needs to mapping SNMP OID and TR-069 management data model for TR-069 managed CPEs. Broadband Forum specifies bulk data collection of CPE in WT-232 document, a mechanism that supports Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) consumes a large of system resource of data collector to maintain the connections with all of the managed CPEs. In this research, we propose a light-weight periodic data collection mechanism which uses one-way Trap with XDR (eXternal Data Representation) encoding format specified in WT-232, and transferred from the CPE by UDP which is considered as a light-weight transport protocol. We also illustrate the implementation and integration procedure for the proposed data collection and TR-069 mechanism of the managed CPEs. The proposed approach reduces the traffic loading of the data collector for a great quantity of TR-069 managed CPEs with well-defined TR-069 data model parameters. This proposed mechanism has the light-weight advantage compared with SNMP, and eliminates the troublesome matter for mapping SNMP OID and data model of TR-069 managed CPEs.
