Abstract :
GaAs MMIC technology has recently been employed in the realization of entire microwave and MM-wave subsystems. The development of active filters in this technology would alleviate the problems associated with passive filters. This paper gives an in-depth assessment of active microwave filters including a classification scheme. Additionally, the noise performance of two of the classes of active filters is investigated through a computer-simulation. It was found that active filters based on distributed techniques have much better noise performance than those designed using an active inductor approach
