Abstract
Summary from only given. We review the mathematical basis of couple mode optical filter analysis and design, show that essentially the same couple-mode formalism may be used to analyze both birefringent (codirectional coupling) and thin film (contradirectional coupling) filters. The responses of the rejected and transmitted components of birefringent filter or the responses of the forward and backward components of thin film filter can be derived using their transfer-matrix as z-polynomials.
