Abstract
This paper provides a tutorial overview of the evolving wireless communications systems with the primary emphasis on the air interface aspects. The overall system is divided into terrestrial, satellite, and hybrid mobile communication systems. It is shown that these technology paths are converging to a common platform which would offer a family of personal communication services (PCS) functions
