Abstract :
A new method for suppressing the cross-term of the Wigner-Ville distribution is presented. It is designated as Wigner-Ville distribution based on intrinsic mode function. It includes two procedures. First, using a method of signal decomposition, a complicated signal is decomposed into a finite and often small number of basic components-intrinsic mode functions that are symmetric with respect to the local zero mean, and have the same numbers of zero-crossings and extrema. Second, the Wigner-Ville distribution is calculated in any of the intrinsic mode functions. This new method can suppress the cross-term interference efficiently. An example from a simulation experiment is given to demonstrate its power. This presented method can analyze complicated nonlinear and nonstationary signals. Finally, the related problems that need further study in this field are pointed out, too
