Abstract :
Summary from only given. We report on the first epitaxial growth of Mn/sup 6+/-doped BaSO/sub 4/ layers. Growth techniques such as the melt growth that work at higher temperatures fail, because BaSO/sub 4/ has a phase transition at 1090 C and a melting point does not exist due to the thermal decomposition. Therefore, we grew undoped BaSO/sub 4/ on the flux-grown BaSO/sub 4/ crystals by use of liquid phase epitaxy (LPE). The Mn/sup 6+/-doped BaSO/sub 4/ layers were investigated spectroscopically by absorption, emission, and luminescence-excitation measurements at room temperature.
