Abstract :
A new rate adaptation protocol EARF (enhanced ARF) is proposed for IEEE 802.11 based on ACK frame statistical information. The main idea is to assign each transmission rate a unique success threshold, which is controlled by a delay factor to quantify the responsiveness of a link adaptation, and dynamically updated along with channel condition. The proposed protocol needs no modification to the current IEEE 802.11 standard and so can be implemented easily by sq/hvare. The simulation shows that EARF outperforms the existing ACK-based protocols such as ARF and ARF3-10 in most channel conditions.
