Abstract :
Summary from only given. We have demonstrated self-imaging 1D and 2D Nd:YAG lasers and amplifiers based on 100 /spl mu/m/spl times/10 mm rectangular aperture waveguides. A thin layer of 0.8% doped Nd:YAG is diffusion-bonded to sapphire cladding layers to give a 1D waveguide with a numerical aperture of 0.47. 2D confinement is then provided by additional gain-guiding in the horizontal plane.
