Abstract
The purpose of the paper is to present an overview of the new ERCOT (Electricity Reliabiliy Council of Texas) electricity market structure. ERCOT serves approximately 85 percent of the state´s electric load and oversees the operation of approximately 70000 megawatts of generation. ERCOT will oversee the transactions that will result from the restructuring, while maintaining the overall reliability of the electrical grid. The presentation includes an overview of ERCOT energy and ancillary services market; a description of the various market timelines and the associated market participant data requirements; and a summary of ERCOT market statistics.
