Abstract
We consider the application of space-time processing techniques using multiple antennas to third generation mobile communication systems, which have been shown to enable substantial capacity improvements. We describe a technique for the evaluation of such schemes and apply it to some potential applications of the technique within the current third generation standards. We describe a simple technique which can provide a 16th order diversity improvement, resulting in a 10 dB performance improvement
