Abstract :
In the current method, a beam of light from a low power (1 mW) He-Ne laser is reflected from the machined surface. This results in a reflection pattern that is projected on a screen. It is assumed that the pattern is highly dependent upon the surface roughness and its orientations. Therefore, the pattern can be analyzed and characterized using a low cost machine vision system, and hence correlated to the surface roughness and other characteristics
