Abstract
The development of the rotary kiln for clinker manufacture has lagged behind the development of other pyroprocessing components. A new set of design criteria is proposed for the modern rotary kiln which addresses the deficiencies associated with existing preheater kilns. Component designs, such as self-aligning roller stations and a direct drive arrangement via the kiln rollers, are incorporated into a two station kiln support system and are discussed as a solution concept
