Abstract
A low power high-speed programmable divider of GHz frequency synthesizer applied to the RF receivers is presented. A new phase-switching technique is proposed and a dual-modulus prescaler (DMP) is built based on this technique. The DMP is of low power consumption, simple and could work at high speed. A digital programmable divider with novel output mode-ctrl signal is described. This signal could control the proposed DMP directly, without any logical operation with signals from DMP, making the work speed higher. The simulation results show that the maximum input frequency of the programmable divider is up to 3GHz. And running at an input frequency of 1.4GHz, the power consumption of the DMP is only 1mA at 1.8V power supply voltage.
