Abstract :
Presents the necessary system definitions. Current discrete-time sliding mode control design techniques are reviewed. An alternative approach to the development of such controllers is proposed and justified. This method uses the state-space partition proposed by Dorling and Zinober (1986) for the design of variable structure control systems for continuous systems together with results from the area of uncertain systems theory by Corless and co-workers (1986). The design of a sliding mode controller for a discrete time lateral dynamic model of a generic vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) aircraft is considered to demonstrate the results of the paper
