Abstract :
Moving object detection is one of the challenging problems in video monitoring systems, especially when the illumination changes and shadow exists. Robust and real-time foreground segmentation is a crucial and first step. Background subtraction is a typical approach to segment foreground, but the continuous or abrupt variations of lighting conditions that cause unexpected changes in intensities on the background reference image. In this paper, a method for real-time moving object detection is described. The foreground is segmented by both the methods of background subtraction and temporal differencing. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method can update the background exactly and quickly along with the variation of illumination, and the moving objects can be extracted effectively.
