  • Abstract
The principles of operation of zero voltage switching Dc-to-DC power converters that are pulse-width modulation regulated are described. As an example, a buck converter with a switching frequency of 100 kHz and a resonant frequency of 312 kHz is analyzed. The improvements in output characteristics and the reduction of switch-voltage stresses obtained by using nonlinear resonant inductors are discussed. A 525 W prototype with a switching frequency of 100 kHz that has been successfully implemented and tested in a laboratory is described. Experimental results obtained from analysis of the buck converter, with and without the linear resonant inductor, are presented.<>
